It is easier than getting out of the truck to see how you are doing (which you cannot do in the game). Some locations are a real challenge to park, so you sometimes have to think out of the box and treat it as a puzzle.
How do I skip parking? just pull up in front of the other trailor's there and hit ENTER. Parking isn't so bad once you build up your confidence. You can always use the third-person camera to help when learning and as you get better, you will automatically just use your mirrors in the cab if you keep at it.

When you deliver cargo (whether it is a quick order or consignment market) it is worth parking the trailer in the right place to gain all the EXP points (if you do not want to park it, just press [Enter] - your order will be finished, but your EXP score will be a bit smaller).

Once you're where you want with the free cam, press F9 or ctrl+F9 in 1.41+ and you can teleport you're truck ! Parking Sensors only monitor the last "few" centimeters. Most people ingame, i guess, have more of a problem getting an idea how much to steer left or right to get the trailer in a straight position at the parking spot, regardless of initial angle.
